Note, it is very important to take proper care when washing and maintaining your extensions. By carelessly shampooing your hair, can cause hair to shed and the tape to loosen and slip out earlier than they should.


Now that you’ve purchased your hair extensions and had them installed, how do you maintain them and make them last? Here are a few tips:

Wait 48 hours after application before washing.

1. Before washing hair, brush hair gently with a loop brush. Detangle from the tips to roots.

2. Shampoos free of oils and silicons work best so the tape doesn’t slip. The very best shampoos would be all natural, pure or organic. Our favorites are Abba Products and Pureology. Both are available at www.zystal.com.


3. Wash your hair in sections while standing in an upright position so the hair flows vertically. Use warm water. Do NOT scrub or massage your hair like you normally wash. Use your fingers to gently stroke the hair downward from roots to tips in sections.

4. Rinse thoroughly. Gently squeeze the hair to remove excess water, do not rub.

5. Apply condition from the nape to the tips downward, again, in sections. Do NOT use conditioner near the tape. This will cause the tape to loosen and slip. Do not comb through the hair with the conditioner in it. Do not massage or rub.  Avoid heavy conditioners or conditioners containing protein or silicon.

6. Do not rub your hair with a towel to remove water. Gently wrap hair in a towel to absorb the water.

7. Styling your hair is ok to use use a hair dryer and curling/ flat iron. Avoid using heat near the tape.

8. Do not sleep on wet hair. Sleeping on wet hair can cause shedding. Make sure hair is completely dry. A big fat braid is best to sleep in to avoid tangling. Comb hair with a wide tooth comb and a loop brush.


Going Swimming? Don’t try to be a mermaid with your hair flowing all around under water. It’s best to wear a cap or if you must, pre-wet your hair and apply some of the natural or organic conditioner to your hair before swimming to avoid tangles. Wash hair immediately after swimming by following the instructions above.
